Focusing

Focusing is a practice of allowing our bodies to guide us to deeper self-knowledge and healing. The name Focusing is used as a metaphor for the process of recognising vague, subtle or ephemeral somatic sensations that can gradually be brought into focus, as one might adjust a pair of binoculars to turn a blurry visual image into clear, recognisable objects. With this practice an issue held deep inside can come unstuck, providing a new sense of direction and fresh energy to undertake it. Focusing is a compassionate, holistic and culturally-sensitive approach that can become a resource in all moments when you want to be in touch with the wisdom that your body can give you. Focusing can be particularly useful for permitting you to:

  • become more attentive and friendlier to yourself and others
  • be independent from external belief systems
  • deepen and making more effective the process of counselling
  • find relief from tension and chronic pain
  • integrate body, mind and spirit
  • surmount obstacles, making decisions and solving problems creatively
  • understand what you are truly feeling and wanting
